Memories are made of this...

Only 10 weeks to go to vacation bliss. I thought I'd spend today's entry discussing my Top Ten OBX memories. As many of you know my memory never EVER fails me. If you remember it differently, you're most likely, probably, most definitely wrong - just ask my husband or my mom. I also thought maybe you old timers, you know the ones that actually camped out on the beaches back in the day might have something to add.

so, here it goes...

10. Finding a real sandollar in the surf - It was only the second time I had been to OBX - I was maybe eight or nine...I think we were still chillin' at the compound. Anyway, we went down to look at the ocean immediately upon arriving. I find this awesome sandollar and some other shells. I brought the sandollar back up to the house to start my collection. Later that week when we were getting ready to leave the sandollar was nowhere to be found. oooooh, mysterious.

9. Watching Pop scale the beach house 2004 - Oh, Pop you're the only 74 year-old man I know that would scale a beach house from the pool deck to the second story deck. It wasn't until all of your daughters' started screaming simultaneously that I began to worry, then I was like forget that, he's fine, he's Pop.

8. Eating stuffed shrimp for the first time. Hey - I was a fat kid, I was affected by yummy food. And this food was yummy enough that I still remember sitting in the Down Under Restaurant (which is now down under the water since several hurricanes have come through) eating my delicious stuffed shrimp.

7. Having Magan play bratty cousin - so I could pick up my 1997 summer romance. Nice work Magan - you should have been an actress!

6. Watching my uncles bring Mommom down to the beach Cleopatra style - on her beach chair, since she wasn't able to walk down herself. All she needed were some grapes and fans.

5. Taking Dexter to the beach for the first time and watching him run in the water. Hilarious.

4. Charades night with the 2008 OBX crew.

3. Bringing Chris to the OBX family vacation in 2004. First morning at 8am he cracked a Heineken - I knew he was a keeper.

2. Summer of 2004 - Tesha is looking for her Vaseline - She finds it and begins to apply to her sunburned face. Little did she know that Brad, Ian, and Tyler had been using it only moments before (and probably for most of the week) to soothe their chaffed nether regions. eeeeeeeewwwwwww.

1. The Sailor Who Fell From Grace with the Sea - Only my father would create a charade idea about a movie no one has heard of, except him. Thinking he stumped the group, he was schooled by Mommom - she went all out falling on the floor. Obviously, in it to win it.

Of course there are many other great memories - watching Tesha, Gale, and Mom taking tequila shots is forever burned in my brain. Taking day trips to the Lost Colony of Roanoke or the Lighthouse, were fun too. Other memories may be a little too ground breaking to share with the group - Dairy Queen, S-Games, and watching Drew and Brandon sacrifice fish in a stockpot using firecrackers - see I told you, you don't want to know it all.

Looking forward to adding to the list in a few short months. Now if BP can get their act together maybe we'll actually be able to go in the water, and here's hoping most of the marine life hasn't sprouted a third eye.

  1. Sweet shoes Adrienne, did you get them at Wings? I wonder if they have them in my size...
My favorite OBX memory involves a crab, a golden retriever and an italian sub from Pizzazz! It doesn't involve any of you people. So I am looking forward to adding you all to my OBX memory bank, or being added to yours I guess

  2. Andrew - you're cool as shit! I can't wait to make a memory with you. Hopefully it won't involve me holding your hair back as you barf into a toilet, either way, I'm in.

  3. 1. The very first memory I have of OBX was always catching as many Sand Crabs as possible and having them all live in a little colony in my sand bucket and never understanding why I couldn't keep them as pets?

    2. Kayaking, Summer of Im not sure. But I do know EVERYONE was down there. I specifically remember Sam and Tesha heading out into the waves and Tesha falling backwards, legs spread eagle into the air, as one of the waves took her out.

    3. Charades night with the 2008 OBX crew, nothing could top that game night.

    4. My dad (aka Poo) making some sort of sea creature out of sand every year.

    5. Summer of 2004 - Tesha looking for her Vaseline, who could forget that?

    6. 2008 OBX with the cousins and friends - me and Drew were the only 2 to go to the beach that day, the weather was questionable, but we went regardless. So like we were 12 again, we lied down in the water right were the waves broke and let them take us out, just to pummel us right back into each other as they washed us up to shore again. I said "pop would be proud".

    7. OBX 99' maybe? Where we stayed at "Fog Town" and there literally were frogs EVERYWHERE.

    8. Eating soup every day for lunch or dinner. The options were endless. Cream of Crab, New England Clam, Oyster Stew, Lobster Bisque...creamy chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, oriental.

    9. Pop and dad giving me body boarding lessons, where I then managed to moon everyone in the ocean behind me.

    10. Bonfires on the beach, the sky never ceases to amaze me down there.

  5. 10: Yambo City - nuff said!
    9. Pressed ham against a sliding glass door in "the compound"
    8. Volleyball on the beach - the good ole days!
    7. Streaking around the hot tub -2004
    6. Outside showers
    5. Pop bagging at Food Lion - all Entemanns desserts. Damn right!
    4. Wayne getting sick of the Lion King video, but watching it anyway.
    3. Wayne and I moving the chair at the end of the driveway to get the girls to pull into the wrong house. (that was funny as shit)
    2. Some memories bear repeating - props to Adrienne - Chris cracking open a Heineken at 8am . "Hey, I'm on vacation!"
And #1 = Pop wearing my scuba slippers for two days because his feet were burnt like bacon.
